Mining was not a necesarily safe occupation for the men employed underground.

Looking across the Coal Flats back at the No. 6 slag pile from South 3rd Street. A portion of Section 16, the square mile of forest land behind the slag heap, has been recently rezoned to 3 acre lots allowing for the construction of 30 to 40 new homesites.

The back side of the No. 6 slag pile and Crystal Creek.

This is the current access road from Roslyn to section 16 shown next to the Coal Mines Trail where it crosses Crystal Creek. This unimproved road passes through the Coal Flats and may be expected to accommodate the 30 to 40 new homesites being platted in section 16.

The new owners of the rezoned portions of section 16 have been busy preparing the future homesites,...

... and preparing new roads within their future development.

The City of Roslyn has had to post the unimproved road through the Coal Flats and entrance points to the town to avoid unnecessary wear and tear on City streets by heavy trucks hauling out of section 16.
